Creative writing—just like all creative works in general where the maker has a genuine interest for the work being created—takes a large portion of the maker’s time, effort and personal ability into the creation of the fictional world being crafted within the text. Because of this: the creator will in turn see their work as a part of themselves. And with the part of oneself going into the work also comes the vulnerability of showing oneself to the public. This is something, that is a difficult thing to deal with for a lot of people since the ability for the public eye to view the person’s creative work and apply their own thoughts and critique onto it can be seen as a scary thing.
Though no actual harm is involved, the idea of displaying oneself to the world around them is an intimidating feeling.
So, due to the common perception that showing one’s creative work to the public is an intimidating thought to bare: I think its importance to talk about the mentality The Eferian Day is under for public consumption and inclusion.
As I mentioned in the ‘’Origins of the Haan Magic System’’ post: The Eferian Day project was created with the mentality that the creative work was for me and myself only. It wasn’t until I made the decision to show it to someone else where the thought of making it a public project became more of a possibility. Since then, the project has been reworked multiple times to be more susceptible and inclusive for public consumption. And by switching the project from a strictly personal work of written creation to what it is today has it gained many benefits of its reworking.
Public Viewing: From Worry to Benefit
From the switch from a personal, private project to its current, rewritten form to fit public consumption: The Eferian Day has seen many benefits from the change in mentality surrounding its creation.
One of the most important benefits has to do with the ability to show other people the project’s fictional world and the concepts within it. By doing this: other people’s input and feedback about the world itself has the capability to influence the overall display and perception of the created Fantasy universe. I as the creator have one viewpoint of the world and the events which takes place within it. Whereas other people—in many cases—will have completely different viewpoints of the story and the characters then I as the creator have. This gives the fictional world a much broader look in its mentality overall since more thoughts, opinions and input widen the scope for how the Fantasy universe is thought of in general.
The worry of public inclusion into a personal project then gain a much more positive perspective once the mentality of the Fantasy world’s creation opens to more opinions then just oneself. By including the perspective and viewpoints of others will the making of the fictional world gain a deeper understanding of how the storyline and events taking place is seen through the eyes of others.
In Conclusion
Though the idea of showing one’s creative work to the public might seem like a worrisome thought: the understanding of other’s perspectives and views will give the creative work a much wider lens of thoughts and ideas. And by including others into the fictional world will the creative work gain a greater deal of new concepts and ideas, enlarging the world itself.
Because just like real-life: inclusion breeds innovation.
