The origin of “The Eferian Day” universe stems from the will to expand on Fantasy folklore whose ideas and concepts has existed for thousands of years throughout human history. Because of this: the series’ primary foundation is heavily influenced by and has a strong connection to these types of concepts which has been told by people throughout our collective history on this earth.

“The Eferian Day” first began as an expansion of traditional Fantasy ideas, such as Elves, mythical creatures and world-saving heroes, and stayed that way for multiple years of its development. One of the largest changes from the series’ early times compared to how it stands now is the complete switch in storytelling viewpoint. When the Sagen world was created: there was plans to begin the storyline of the main series by focusing on each individual character’s journey. And all those individual books would have had similar endings, connecting all of them to the beginning of “The Eferian Day”.

In the first stages of planning: the series almost completely focused on traditional Fantasy aspects. Though it was also an entirely separate storyline altogether opposed to the current structure of the series’ focus points: the world of Sagen and the Eferian continent was very close to generic Fantasy stories. This, of course, makes sense since the primary worldbuilding aspects was made from the classic storytelling structure of other Fantasy works.
But as time passed: “The Eferian Day” series gained a new face. More and more aspects of the story and the Sagen world began to shift away from the traditional Epic Fantasy genre and started forming into the Dark Fantasy/Mystery universe it is known to have now.
(Genre labelling was talked about in the “In the Dark about Fantasy Genres: How “The Eferian Day” is Labelled” post published 31/03/2025.)
So, with the Sagen universe’s ideas and concepts strewing further away from its previous Epic Fantasy elements: what is the future for those traditional Fantasy elements which were used to create “The Eferian Day” series?
From Old to New: Same but Different
Though many newer concepts have altered the Sagen world in many ways: the universe itself will forever be within the same baseline structure of what people would classify as ‘Epic Fantasy’. This is due to the world having its foundation within the Traditional Fantasy elements and the overall storytelling and events taking place within Eferian. Just like the original idea behind the creation of the Sagen world, the mindset of expanding on already existing and used ideas within the Fantasy genre is still the core thought-process throughout the series’ development.
The idea of expanding existing worldbuilding elements is one of the largest reasons as for why the Sagen universe shifted to the version it is current in. For it is within the collective thinking mind where presented thoughts can continue to grow into new ideas by constantly bringing new thoughts into the mix. Just like real-life: we have a technologically advanced civilization due to the collective cooperation of people working together to continuously discover, innovate and develop the world for the better. And the development of Fantasy worlds is no different. It is all a continuation of other people’s ideas.
Like the description for the series says:
‘“The Eferian Day” is a Dark Fantasy book series exploring explainable magic science down to the molecules of spell composition. Its primary purpose is to give a concise and simple understanding of magic functions apposed from mysticism and disbelief in grounded fictional worlds.‘
The world changes with new ideas presented, but the core concept of what the world is will always stay the same. Same magic, different explanation. Same hero story progression, different perspective.
Same, but different.
