The Eferian Day’s Inspirations

For timeline and technology: “The Eferian Day” takes inspirations from late 15th century going into 16th century mainly surrounding culture and appearance of northern and eastern Europe going into parts of Siberia. These parts of the real world were chosen based on traditional Fantasy storytelling and folklore as well as due to my educations as the creator. The capital city of ROUE being the most advanced out of the locations in Sagen with variations of living conditions elsewhere. Though some technological innovations of the periods mentioned do not exist in Sagen such as cannons and flintlock rifles due to black powder not being a thing.

“The Eferian Day” is primarily not based in historical accuracy. The series does feature elements and portrayals of historical scenes and technological innovations from the period the world is loosely constructed around. But it is bound to follow its own reality. Sagen therefore only takes light inspiration of the real world. Because the majority of the Eferian species are not of Human ancestry: Sagen caters to the needs and lifestyles of the species who take up most of the land within the Eferian continent. This also affects the way in which the world’s overall foundation and functions operate.

The Eferian species was created with the idea of using the behaviours and natural instincts of the ancestry of said species. Examples of this is T’hemin who is a humanoid species of rodents. Because of their ancestry, the mentality of the species has major influence in the behaviours of real-life rats. So, the lifestyle of a T’hemin person is based in a conscious version of a rat rather than a conscious version of the ape ancestry we as humans are related to. This is all in theory, of course, since it’s not possible to imagine another species’ mentality without layers of influence from the human side. Like depicting aliens in Sci-Fi: the version of the unfamiliar species will always have human features due to them being created by humans without a real, psychical version of said conscious life.

The series focuses on an adult audience with various heavy topics and darker themes as the story progresses. Though featured throughout the entire series in many forms. The project takes the form of featuring environments and living conditions of the more impoverished side of the Eferian continent. This makes it so the wealthy side of the continent, which is normally the highlighted aspect in written works throughout human history both fictional and nonfictional, less prevalent to be the focus point. Doing this, in my opinion, makes the world much more grounded and immersive since the focus shows how the regular person would live in a fictional world such as Sagen rather than just giving an image of divine-like heroism.

No romantic interests, ‘will-they-won’t-they’ dynamics between characters, sex scenes or swearing (apart from occasional made-up ‘swear’ words) is featured in the text. Nudity is done in moderation with vague mentions rather than direct descriptions when expected for the context of the event or scene. These aspects of storytelling/scene making have been left out from the creation of “The Eferian Day” storyline on purpose since these types of elements heavily influence the overall viewpoint of the fictional world itself.
