The Tenth Scroll: What is Vexing?

Vexing is a subcategory of Trimél’s Uphold Dast Casting spells. Vexing is the process of forming and casting elemental walls made up of ‘’woven’’ Dhemsen elements used as shields against Dast Casting spells.

In this context, the term ‘’woven’’ refers to the Dhemsen being conjoined into fabric-like strands by using a high number of Dhemsen with a low number of Cambriny elements. Doing this makes the Dhemsen have a small enough influence from the Cambriny elements that they can still exist within their natural state whilst gaining the powers from the Cambriny elements being used. The Cambriny used for this process can tether the Dhemsen closer together into the woven-like form. And from doing this the Dhemsen elements are then able to become elemental walls against Dast Casting spells being projected onto them by acting as barriers between the spell and the person.

The process behind Vexing stems in the idea of Dhemsen elements being able to pull and drag each other, alongside other Haan elements. Both aspects are needed for Vexing to work in the way it is described. While the process of creating Vexing shield spells is being done, it is possible for other Dhemsen elements within the area around the spell to be pulled into the configuration. But the further away from the Minbry-Point the elements are, the weaker the spell composition is and will become easier for destructive spells to pass through. There are two primary processes of Vexing to make elemental shield spells: Projectile Vexing and Link Vexing.

Projectile Vexing is the process of tethering Dhemsen elemental together with the purpose of projecting the elemental shield created. This is done to gain fast walls made up of a smaller number of Dhemsen elemental for the sake of time. Due to its construction: Projectile Vexing is at greater risk of failing but are used while in danger to bring up some layers of protection against Dast Casting spells. Link Vexing is the process of tethering Dhemsen elements together with the purpose of the elemental wall to be set to a singular location. Because of the size: Link Vexing is much slower than Projectile Vexing and require some time to become fully constructed. But, once formed, will provide a stronger structure against casted Dast Castings.

In theory, it is possible for elemental walls of a healing nature to be casted. This is due to Vexing being very close to the process of casting Trimél’s Uphold healing spells. But this is never seen within any character’s practice of Dast Casting since it would not have many useful purposes in practice. There is a very fine line between Vexing spells and Trimél’s Uphold spells. Both spell groups are within the same type of spell composition structure and require the same types of Haan elements. What makes Vexing so different is that the Vexing process uses Dhemsen’s natural state of being within the elemental rain over Sagen. Opposed to Trimél’s Uphold spells who always must force Dhemsen’s non-natural state to form for the spells to work.

Therefore, Vexing has a lot to do with the properties and the nature of the Dhemsen elements themselves. And too how the Dhemsen elements’ function and how they behave in the air.
