The Seventh Scroll: What is Dhemsen?

Dhemsen is a grouping consisting of twenty-two Haan elements. The category separates those whose abilities interfere with the movements of other Haan elements.

This also Include other Dhemsen elements.

In this context, the ‘’interference of other elements’’ refers to the Dhemsen’s natural abilities to pull and drag other elements around them. Dhemsen elements are also capable of reversing their natural states to push away other Haan elements using a process called Vexing (refer to the ‘’What is Vexing?’’ scroll for more information about the subject). But the process of Vexing Dhemsen elements can only be done with the interference of an outside force. Usually by a person or being able to manipulate the Dhemsen elements around them. Dhemsen elements switching to this state without an interfering force is highly uncommon since the Haan elements always want to stay within the same state they are usually in within the elemental rain over Sagen.

Reminiscent to a magnetic field: Dhemsen elements drag and pull other Haan elements to them. Essentially locking themselves onto other elements. One of the ways the pulling of Dhemsen elements affect Dast Casting is when Dhemsen elements are used to a heavier degree. Because Dhemsen elements want to lock themselves onto other Haan elements, the Caster using Dhemsen can sometimes have additional effects due to unexpected Haan elements being pulled into the spell composition without the Caster’s knowledge. This is due to how the Dhemsen elements will naturally pull other Haan elements around them even without the spell composition being present.

This causes Dast Casting spells to gain side effects from having additional Haan elements outside of the Caster’s composition. One of the ways to get around this issue of Dhemsen elements attracting other Haan elements to them is called ‘’Dhemsen Sweeping’’. Dhemsen Sweeping is the practice of actively pulling away Haan elements from the Dhemsen within a specific area. There are two main ways to do this.

The first and most common way is for a character or characters to aimlessly cast spells known as Evaporation Spells within the area they are attempting to ‘’clean’’ from clusters of Dhemsen’s dragging. Evaporation Spells are Haan spells whose composition only contain Dhemsen elements. Evaporation Spells are most well-known to act as counter spells against already casted Haan spells by breaking or derailing the projectile force of the Minbry-Point. By using Evaporation Spells, the character is then able to ‘’purify’’ the Dhemsen within the area they are attempting to clean.

The second way to Dhemsen Sweep is for a character to cast specific spells containing Haan elements the Dhemsen have locked themselves onto. The problem with this is that this option is heavily depended on the character knowing what Haan elements exist within the area they are attempting to clean. So, the result always varies depending on the character’s experience and skillset. The Dhemsen elements is a very important aspect of Dast Casting in general. The Dhemsen elements have two primary proposes for Dast Casting.

The main purpose is for the Dhemsen to act as a strengthening element to the spell composition’s structure. The Dhemsen acts as barriers against forces which alters the spell composition’s core structure once projected. Gaining the benefit of the Dhemsen element’s ability to pull other Haan elements. This causes countering spells to have less of a likelihood to damage the Dast Casting by hitting the Minbry-Point holding the composition together.

The other way the Dhemsen elements are important for Dast Casting have to do with Climb Theory (refer to the ‘’What is Climb Theory?’’ scroll for more information about the subject). By having the ability to alter directions of casted spells is a vital part of being able to avoid risk and injury. By having the Dhemsen elements present, the Caster’s ability to change casted spells in the air can be detrimental for the safety to the person the spell has been casted towards.

There is a very broad spectrum of topics in the subject of Dhemsen. These subjects include the Dhemsen elements’ ability to ‘’stick’’ to objects, using curved, metal surfaces to alter the spell’s direction and the Dhemsen elements’ usage for characters to catch spells in the air, known as Catchers (refer to the ‘’What is a Catcher?’’ scroll for more information about the subject) to name a few.

The Dhemsen elements is a very important part of not only Dast Casting. But also, Dhemsen’s usage throughout the Sagen world have more to do then just for spell casting in general.
